01 September 2025-The Philippine Embassy in Cairo participated in the celebration of 2025 Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) during the first flag raising ceremony this September.
Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Crystal Ann S. Dunuan highlighted the history and importance of MANA Mo. She also read the special message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. which underscored Philippines’ identity as a seafaring nation which is deeply rooted in its history—from ancient balangays to global trade routes, and from colonial resistance to modern maritime governance. President Marcos also stated that the sea has shaped the nation’s economy, culture, and sovereignty. Today, institutions like the National Maritime Council continue this legacy, driving growth in agriculture, energy, commerce, and science. As the country builds a Bagong Pilipinas, the President's speech urges unity in protecting the seas—not just for sovereignty, but for future generations.
Thereafter, the video Message of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Theresa P. Lazaro was played on screen. SFA Lazaro's message emphasized national pride in the country’s deep-rooted connection to the ocean, importance of unity in preserving maritime heritage, global cooperation to address environmental threats like climate change and marine pollution and the Philippines’ active role in international maritime advocacy, especially in preparation for its ASEAN chairship in 2026.
A short video on the accomplishments and successful activities of the Department of Foreign Affairs during last year’s MANA Mo celebration was also shared for viewing. END
