On 04 August 2023, the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia declared a six-month state of emergency in Amhara due to the recent conflict in the region.
Filipinos in Ethiopia are reminded that the Philippine Government maintains Alert Level 4 in the regions of Tigray, Afar, Amhara and Benishangul-Gumuz in northern Ethiopia. Alert Level 4 is raised when there is large-scale internal conflict or full-blown external attack.
The Philippine Embassy in Cairo advises all Filipinos not to travel to these four regions at any time. Filipinos who are still in these four regions are advised to evacuate for their safety.
The Philippine Government maintains Alert Level 2 in the remaining regions of Ethiopia, including Oromia (includes cities of Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa), Somali, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region or SNNPR, Gambella, Harari and South West regions. Alert Level 2 is issued when there are real threats to the life, security, and property of Filipinos arising from internal disturbance in or external threat to the host country.
