28 September 2025 - The Philippine Embassy in Cairo successfully held a series of activities from 25 to 27 September 2025 for its personnel. The highlight of these activities were two sessions on Gender and Development (GAD) from 25 to 26 September 2025.

On 25 September, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Bryan B. Fernandez introduced landmark Philippine Supreme Court cases addressing gender issues such as gender-based violence, and gender identity. Vice Consul Fernandez’s presentation provided valuable insights into Philippine jurisprudence that has shaped gender equality policies in the Philippines.

The next day, Charge d’Affaires Crystal Ann S. Dunuan led a GAD review and re-echo session, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Department of Foreign Affairs to mainstream GAD in its programs and operations. The Filipino and Egyptian personnel actively exchanged views on each other’s perspectives and experiences on gender issues. The session also reviewed basic GAD concepts and the use of fair language, which were topics during last year’s GAD lectures.

Aside from the GAD trainings, Mr. Jan Adrianne M. Espiritu, the Embassy’s Communications Officer and Attaché, had a brief talk on cybersecurity and how the personnel can protect themselves from spam and phishing emails. The session emphasized practical strategies to safeguard personal and professional data against online threats.

The trainings were followed by a series of indoor and outdoor games, fostering camaraderie and teamwork among Embassy officers and staff. On 27 September, the activities ended with a short meditation and reflection session led by Ms. Melcah May B. Ofngol, Attaché, wherein the personnel got to take a brief moment for relaxation and calmness.

The Embassy remains committed to advancing gender and development goals and ensuring a safe, respectful, and empowering environment for all its personnel.END
