PH EMBASSY CONDUCTS TOWN HALL MEETING AND LAUNCHES 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (VAW)

21 November 2025 — The Philippine Embassy in Cairo convened a Town Hall Meeting and launched the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) at the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah. The event was attended by representatives from the Filipino community in Egypt.
In her opening remarks, Chargé d’affaires, a.i., Ms. Crystal Ann S. Dunuan, presented the objectives of the town hall meeting and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to eliminate VAW in all its forms.
Representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt, Atty. Amr Karakish, Ms. Nouran Abo-Aly, and Ms. Mirna Zaki discussed issues such as trafficking in persons, migrants' rights, and violence against women. This was followed by a virtual presentation from Labor Attaché Atty. John Rio A. Bautista of the Migrants Welfare Office in Dubai, who provided updates on services provided by the DMW, and discussed overseas employment procedures and warning against third country employment scheme. The speakers addressed the queries and concerns of the participants during the Q and A sessions.
To conclude the event, Vice Consul Bryan B. Fernandez announced the opening of Overseas Voting registration and shared updates on the Embassy’s services. The Embassy also distributed VAW informational materials to participants, reinforcing the campaign’s message and underscoring the Embassy’s commitment to building a strong, informed, and resilient Filipino community in Egypt.
