26 October 2025 -The Philippine Embassy in Cairo, headed by Charge d’Affaires Crystal Ann Dunuan, officially inaugurated the “Pagkilala” (Recognition) exhibit on the rooftop of the Misr Public Library. This cultural showcase was organized in collaboration with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Misr Public Library.

The event welcomed approximately 50 guests, including representatives from Egyptian institutions, students, and members of the Filipino community. Among the distinguished attendees was H.E. Ambassador Reda El-Taify, Director of the Misr Public Libraries Fund, who delivered a heartfelt message following the opening remarks by Charge d’Affaires Dunuan. Also in attendance were Ms. Ashnadelle M. Amin Hilmy II, member of the Misr Public Library Board, and Ms. Rania Sharaan, Director of the Misr Public Library.

At the heart of the exhibit are photographs, each accompanied by informative captions highlighting the rich heritage of various indigenous groups in the Philippines. These images, published by the NCIP, are complemented by a vibrant display of traditional textiles sourced from provinces across the archipelago.

To enhance the immersive experience, guests were treated to a selection of traditional Filipino dishes and lively cultural performances by Ms. Kim Sowter, Yara Mapandi, Dominic Quiachon, and Bedahsia Avarro. A special corner of the exhibit featured a photo backdrop and a collection of indigenous textiles and accessories, allowing guests to try them on and capture memorable snapshots.

The “Pagkilala” exhibit is part of the Embassy’s celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Month, to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. The exhibit is open to the public on October 29, 2025 at the rooftop of the Misr Public Library. END
