03 August 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Cairo kicked off its 2026 Buwan ng Wika celebration today with the first Tinikling dance workshop at the Sentro Rizal Library, under the program entitled, "Pamana: Pagdiriwang ng Wikang Filipino sa Pamamagitan ng Sining at Sayaw" (Heritage: Celebration of the Filipino Language through Art and Dance).

Cultural Officer Ms. Sohaila Amerol-Alonto opened the session by giving a brief background of this month's celebration and introduced the origin of the Tinikling dance—one of the oldest and most cherished folk dances of the Philippines. Meanwhile, Vice Consul Bryan Fernandez led the first session of the Tinikling dance workshop, assisted by Ms. Melcah Ofngol. The session featured a dance demonstration followed by hands-on training. The program and workshop were conducted in Filipino to introduce the participants to Tinikling and dance-related Filipino vocabulary.

The Embassy continues to invite youths including second-generation Filipinos, Filipino-Egyptians, and young locals in Cairo to join the remaining sessions. The program aims to foster appreciation of Filipino language and culture while strengthening community ties in Egypt.

Succeeding Tinikling Dance Workshops will be held on August 5, 10, and 12, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Embassy chancery. Aside from the dance workshop, on August 18 to 20, the Embassy will also offer art workshops, including DIY fan-making, Philippine monuments-inspired paper crafts, and coloring activities for children. Interested participants may register at bit.ly/2026BuwanNgWika.
