27 August 2025– The Philippine Embassy in Egypt hosted a hybrid lecture on Baybayin-a pre-colonial Philippine writing system, in celebration of the Buwan ng Wika at the Sentro Rizal Library in Cairo.

Chargé d’affaires, Mr. Bryan B. Fernandez, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the Embassy’s commitment to promoting awareness and appreciation of the Philippines' rich cultural heritage with the Embassy’s Egyptian partner museums and institutions and among the Filipino community in Egypt.

The event’s highlight was an enlightening lecture and interactive writing workshop conducted by Mr. George Ian “Taipan” Lucero, a Baybayin advocate, artist and proprietor of CalligraFilipino. The lecture was then followed by an engaging question-and-answer session.

Guests included representatives of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) represented by Ms. Maisara Salah Abd ElAziz and Mr. Sally Abd Elmonem Abd El Mohsen as well as the Filipino community in Egypt.
