PH EMBASSY HONORS RIZAL'S 129TH MARTYRDOM, LAUNCHES OVERSEAS FILIPINO MONTH EXHIBIT

29 December 2025- The Philippine Embassy in Cairo commemorated the 129th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal with the theme “Rizal: Sa Pagbangon ng mga Mamamayan, Aral at Diwa Mo ang Tunay na Gabay” and launched a special exhibit for Overseas Filipino Month at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal Library.
Chargé d’affaires Mr. Bryan B. Fernandez opened the program with remarks highlighting the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, underscoring how his writings inspired generations of Filipinos and paved the way toward Philippine independence. The event featured an audio-visual presentation of Rizal’s life, works, and writings and a special community segment, “Hero’s Inbox: Messages to Pepe from Afar,” where attendees shared personal reflection and notes of gratitude to the national hero. Mr. Conrad Llona, Collecting Officer and Attaché, performed an intermission number, singing “Isang Lahi.”
Ms. Sohaila Amerol-Alonto, Public Diplomacy Officer and Attaché, provided a brief background of “Filipino Excellence in Egypt” – an initiative honoring overseas Filipinos excelling in various fields. The exhibit showcased inspiring stories of professional excellence and community impact, aiming to foster pride, unity, and visibility within the Filipino community in Egypt while recognizing their contributions abroad.
Students and members from the Filipino community, along with other nationalities residing in Egypt, attended the event and enjoyed the Filipino delicacies served. END
