12 June 2026 – The Philippine Embassy held a special flag‑raising ceremony to mark the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

Embassy officers and staff, led by Ambassador Charmaine Rowena C. Aviquivil, gathered at the chancery for the event wherein the video of the National Day message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was played. It was followed by the reading of the National Day message of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro by Ms. Crystal Ann S. Dunuan, Second Secretary and Consul. Both messages underscored the importance of honoring history, valuing freedom, and embracing the responsibility of shaping the nation’s future—rooted in resilience, sacrifice, and collective duty.

Thereafter, Ambassador Aviquivil delivered her message highlighting the significance of the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence which is to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes, protecting the rights and freedoms of every Filipino, and preserving them for future generations towards the shared dream of peace, progress, and prosperity.

Ambassador Aviquivil also fondly noted that the occasion is a full-circle moment for her diplomatic career, having been previously posted in Egypt from 2005 to 2008. She expressed gratefulness to once again serve the country in Egypt. She hoped that the occasion inspires all to honor the past, uphold responsibilities in the present, and work together toward a brighter future for the Philippines and the Filipino people.

The special flag-raising ceremony is among the activities being held by the Embassy to celebrate Philippine Independence Day. END
