08 February 2026 – A Kabayan takes her oath to reacquire Philippine citizenship.

Under Republic Act No. 9225 (Dual Citizenship Law), natural-born Filipinos who have acquired the citizenship of another country through naturalization may retain or re-acquire their Philippine citizenship, making them dual citizens of both the Philippines and the country where they were naturalized. This law allows them to enjoy the rights and privileges of being Filipino, including obtaining a Philippine passport, living in the Philippines indefinitely, owning property without foreigner restrictions, and exercising the right to vote. Full details on requirements and procedures are found in this link https://www.philippines-egypt.com/dual-citizenship.

The Philippine Embassy in Egypt reminds Filipinos in Egypt, Djibouti, Eritrea, and Sudan that natural-born Filipinos who became naturalized citizens of another country are deemed to have lost their Philippine citizenship and are regarded as former Filipinos unless they formally reacquire it. Philippine citizenship is reacquired by taking the Philippine oath of allegiance before a duly authorized Philippine official.

Minor children of those who reacquire citizenship under R.A. 9225 may also derive Philippine citizenship and enjoy the same rights and privileges.

Those who wish to reacquire Philippine citizenship under R.A. 9225 may apply directly at the Embassy. END
